RoRo (roll-on-roll-off) is a safe and reliable method of transporting wheeled cargo overseas by sea. This includes vehicles, mining equipment, trucks, buses, boats, and agricultural machinery.
Unlike container shipping, RoRo vessels are designed to accommodate cars and rolling cargo by allowing them to be driven or towed on and off the boat using roll-trailers. These vessels have dedicated ramps and parking areas to facilitate the efficient loading and unloading of cargo. It is considered the safest and cheapest way of heavy equipment transportation due to the ease of handling. The cost of RoRo transportation is usually more economical than container options, making it the preferred choice across automotive, mining, and construction industries.
All vehicles are driven or towed onto the vessel via a wide stern ramp by qualified handlers called Stevedores. These experienced drivers ensure your vehicle is carefully parked and secured.
RoRo ships can have up to 13 or 14 decks with liftable ramps connecting them. Vehicles are placed on the most suitable decks depending on their height, length, and weight. Once on board, they are secured to lashing points using braces or straps to prevent movement in rough weather.
We can transport almost any type of cargo. Our fleet of roll-trailers incorporates several sizes ranging from 20 to 80 feet, with the capacity to handle up to 160 MT. Longer roll-trailers are equipped with integrated rails to carry trains with bogies.
The core benefits of RoRo shipping include exceptional time and cost efficiency along with a reduced risk of damage. Rolling cargo on and off the vessel minimizes physical handling compared to lifting containers with cranes.
Our RoRo vessels operate as Pure Car/Truck Carriers (PCTC), built to handle large counts of vehicles and unconventionally-sized cargo. We manage a modern fleet of about 40 RoRo vessels designed for high flexibility. This includes advanced vessels offering up to 6.5 meters of free deck height, 12 meters of ramp width, and a ramp capacity of 375 MT.
Our specialized infrastructure eliminates the need for crane lifting in both load and discharge ports. Railcars can roll directly on and off roll-trailers equipped with matching rail tracks, optimizing safety and lowering operational overhead.
Furthermore, the introduction of next-generation Aurora Class vessels establishes the largest and most environmentally friendly car carriers in the industry, featuring ammonia and methanol-ready notations.
In 2005, we transported 44 trucks from Gothenburg, Sweden to Sumatra, Indonesia, supporting disaster relief efforts following the South East Asia tsunami.
In January 2006, we partnered with the Norwegian Red Cross to transport crucial relief resources to Mombasa, Kenya, helping supply aid to famine-stricken areas in Eastern Africa.
In 2005, we partnered with the international child welfare organization, SOS Children's Villages, financing the construction and operation of family houses and a social center in Lipa, Philippines.
In 2008, the support expanded to cover four additional family houses in Calbayog and running costs for a family house in Cebu. That same year, the first young cadet from the local SOS Children's Village joined our company program to begin a maritime career.
